Residents of Shangus, in the Anantnag district of southern Kashmir, protested against the Ministry of Electricity Development on Saturday over the village’s unscheduled power supply.

The demonstrators, according to the GNS, had gathered in main-chowk Shangus, brutally halting the movement of vehicles.

Speaking to the media, protesters claimed they witnessed frequent power outages, with the department despite many assessments doing nothing.

“They (PDD) have installed electricity meters in Shangus while increasing charges, but no improvement has been seen in the timing of the electricity supply,” said one protester.

We urge the authorities to intervene and provide the village with an appropriate power supply, he said.

The protesters then dispersed peacefully and traffic was restored to the road. (GNS)
