Load switches extend the life of battery-powered devices

Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH has released three load switches that offer remarkable quiescent current reduction. The new devices are primarily intended for use in wearable and IoT applications where they will control power to peripherals, including sensors. They are also useful when upgrading current designs created around discrete semiconductors.

The new TCK12xBG series devices offer a new driver circuit that the company has developed, facilitating a typical quiescent current (IQ) in the ON state of just 0.08 nA. This means a reduction of around 99.9% compared to its current product, the TCK107AG. This goes a long way in extending the life of portable and IoT devices powered by small batteries.

The series includes three devices: the TCK127BG provides an automatic dump that turns on at an active high level; the TCK126BG turns on without automatic discharge; and the TCK128BG at an active low. The devices operate from a supply (VIN) and control (VCT) voltage between -0.3 V and 6.0 V. The output current (IOUT) is rated at 1.0 A continuous and 2.0 A for pulsed operation.

All of the new devices are housed in a newly developed WCSP4G package that occupies just 0.645mm x 0.645mm of board area with a height of 0.465mm, significantly saving space in compact portable and IoT designs. An innovative back coating reduces the risk of damage to devices during the mounting process.
