Global Power Generation Market Forecast 2020-2030: Renewable Energy to Dominate Investments in Next Decade

0

DUBLIN, March 30, 2021 / PRNewswire / – The “Global Electricity Generation Forecast 2020-2030: Solar, Wind, Gas, Hydroelectric, Oil / Diesel, Nuclear, Biomass and Coal Markets” the report was added to ResearchAndMarkets.com offer.

Total global installed generation capacity is expected to increase from 7,180.60 GW in 2020 to 10,532.45 GW by 2030 at a CAGR of 3.9%. Total investment in electricity is expected to rise from $ 408.35 billion in 2020 at $ 545 billion in 2030 at 2.9% CAGR.

This study covers solar, wind, gas, hydropower, oil / diesel, nuclear, biomass and coal. It includes various distributed and centralized energy sources by investment and examines regional trends and future prospects for each energy source.

In terms of investment in electricity production, the 2020s will follow on from a trend that accelerated in the 2010s: the rise of renewable energies. The continued shift from carbon-intensive energy will gain popularity as renewable energy sources become increasingly competitive with fossil fuels. Increased investment in transmission and distribution lines, proposals for digital grid solutions and energy storage will minimize the reduction of renewables in the future.

China and Asia Pacific will lead to investment, as China seeks to minimize the growth of carbon emissions and Asia Pacific invests in reducing the region’s current supply deficit. Renewable energies, combined with nuclear, which will experience high levels of investment over the decade, will represent 90% of investments in 2030.

For developing countries, coal will continue to play a critical role in energy supply, even as new investments decline rapidly. Total installed capacity of coal is expected to drop by 306.37 GW, from 1,937.17 GW in 2020 to 1,630.80 GW in 2030, when new investments in coal are close to zero. North America and Europe will dominate coal closings. The high availability of gas and the fall in prices will lead to new investments in gas-fired power plants, the capacity of which will increase by 417.4 GW between 2020 and 2030.

A limited number of gas-fired power plants will be disconnected as they face economic challenges from renewable energies. The majority will remain online beyond their operational lifespan through advanced service and maintenance proposals. The installed capacity of solar photovoltaic energy is expected to increase by 2,063.26 GW, while the installed capacity of wind energy will increase by 915.27 GW between 2020 and 2030.
