ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – October 31, 2021): The country’s power generation capacity increased 9.3% in the last fiscal year due to prudent policies put in place by the government to gradually switch to alternative and renewable energy sources.
“During the current fiscal year, the government has set itself the goal of achieving additional growth of 15.2%, focusing on alternative and renewable resources,” according to an official report available with APP.
The energy mix for power generation is expected to gradually shift to domestic coal, renewable and hydropower resources, as the cheapest and most sustainable option, according to the report, adding that over the next few years, it more focus should be placed on improving the transmission of electricity. and distribution networks (T&D).
The government has put in place an effective alternative and renewable energy policy that would be extended to Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The policy would be implemented on an accelerated basis across the country to increase the share of renewable energies in the country’s energy mix.
According to available data, the share of solar resources in the energy mix would be 1.7% by June 2022, wind power 3.7%, hydel 23.7%, local coal 7.6 %, imported coal 11.6%, gas 20.2%, RLNG 10.9%, petroleum 11.7%, bagasse 0.8% and nuclear 8%.
