OVERLAND PARK, Kan .– (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – Continuing its global growth strategy, Black & Veatch today appointed Youssef Merjaneh as Senior Vice President, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) as the region continues to focus on energy transition dynamic.
The company’s expansion into the EMEA region and the appointment of Youssef come at a time of transformation for Black & Veatch. In 2020, the company announced that it stop participating in any new design and construction of coal-fired power plants and focus its capabilities on supporting other parts of its portfolio, including the production, transmission and distribution of renewable energy, and other aspects of conventional production, including gas, hydrogen and carbon capture .
While Europe has been building renewable capacity for many years and continues to do so, the regions of the Middle East and Africa are also following a similar path, and Black & Veatch’s comprehensive portfolio is perfectly suited to support l ‘entire region in this transition both on the production and delivery fronts of electricity.
“Although the EMEA is a very diverse region, the energy landscape shares a common dynamic: increasing demand must be met while carbon emissions must fall,” said Youssef. “Europe is taking the initiative to accelerate the path towards zero carbon energy. The development of alternative energy sources is an integral part of the strategies of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and African countries are also making NetZero commitments. ”
Youssef has 19 years of global business experience in operations, sales, business development, strategy and project management, with a strong focus on the Middle East and Europe. His background is in energy, oil and gas, transportation and IT. He was until recently CEO and Managing Director of RATP Dev Mobility Egypt. Previously, Youssef headed the ABB Saudi Arabia division for electric motors and drives, and earlier in his career he held several positions at Siemens, including senior roles in power generation, transmission and electricity distribution and mobility.
“We have been carrying out energy projects in the Middle East for over 45 years. Our Europe Power team continued to grow to meet growing customer demand for solutions. Youssef’s appointment constitutes a unifying focal point in a region the company sees as strategic for expanding its portfolio in the global electricity market, ”said Mario Azar, President of Black & Veatch’s Electricity Division.
