A way forward in environmental conservation


With power shortages in India during the year’s killer heat wave, the need to become carbon neutral and environmentally conscious; the establishment of waste heat recovery plants is the next step to stop excessive energy consumption by India’s manufacturing and industrial sectors.

Waste heat recovery‘ is when thermal energy is reused after the generation of electricity through unique processes that would otherwise have been released into the atmosphere.

Economical and environmentally friendly

Any industrial process requires the transformation of raw materials into products, which results in the generation of thermal energy as a by-product. When this heat is captured rather than released to the environment, it can become a heat source for various other power plants and manufacturing processes.

For example, steel mills use this process to increase production and reduce carbon emissions by reducing fuel consumption. Not only is it safe for the environment, but it reduces resource capital as fuel consumption decreases, as shown in ThermTech.

As fuel prices skyrocket due to the Ukrainian-Russian invasion and supply chain disruptions due to Covid-19, the waste heat recovery plant offers a long-term method to reduce the energy consumption.

Key factor to achieve carbon emission target

A 2016 report by the scientific journal Climate Dynamics, cited in ThermTech, analyzed carbon dioxide emissions from developing countries and recommended that waste heat recovery plants are essential to “reverse carbon emissions”. by 2030 and 2050.

It is an important area for the potential conservation of energy and serves as a means of generating more energy. Operational efficiency is the way to become environmentally friendly while remaining profitable.

However, waste heat recovery plants also have drawbacks. The project requires attention and human resources to operate and evaluate regularly.
