Nashik: Residents of Bhadrakali, Panchavati, Nehru Chowk and Kalika Mata temple areas in Old Nashik and even Kamathawade have been facing erratic power supply since Monday. Residential and commercial consumers have faced erratic power cuts ranging from 15 minutes to more than two hours at a stretch or even frequent interruptions, without any warning, from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited authorities. (MSEDCL), Monday and Tuesday.
Keshav Patil, a resident of the Bhadrakali region who owns an electricity shop, said: “Since Monday, the power supply has been interrupted for short periods, but several times a day. It affects my business.
Niraj Shah, who owns a business establishment near Kalika Mata mandir, said: “We suffered two hours of power cut on Tuesday, brutally. However, there is no mention of the power cut by the company.
Residents of Kamathawade also faced a power outage from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. “Two days ago there was a power outage warning, which did not happen. But on Tuesday there was no power from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.,” said Neeta Barhate, a resident of Kamathawade.
Deepak Kumthekar, the chief engineer for the Nashik area, said he was unaware of the issues and promised to look into the matter.
Superintendent Engineer DH Padalkar said there were several reasons for the power failure.
“The long power cuts were due to maintenance work carried out on Monday and Tuesday. There was a transformer failure at a location on Monday near Kalika Mata Mandir and a cable failure at Kamathawade on Tuesday,” the official said.
Asked about the power cuts, he said work done by the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Limited (NMSCDCL) in the past was now causing problems.
“Besides power outages, frequent interruptions for 5-10 minutes are due to the exercise of turning off and on the power to find the affected areas. Once the affected areas are isolated, power is restored so that others consumers are not suffering,” the official said, adding that repairs are underway in these areas.
