International Container Services, Inc. (ICTSI) recently partnered with Microsoft to centralize its data platforms in terminals around the world and improve operations.
“With Microsoft technology, our new data platform gives us 24/7 visibility and critical system monitoring services across all of our global terminals in all of the markets we operate in,” said Brian. Hibbert, Chief Information Officer of ICTSI.
“This is a game-changer for us because it improves our efficiency and allows us to better engage with our partners and customers,” he said.
ICTSI operates 34 terminals in 20 countries, from the home port of Manila and on six continents, hence its need for a centralized data management system.
Its new integrated data platform, powered by Microsoft Azure, gives the enterprise an enterprise view of all its endpoint operations.
To date, five terminals have been on-board and ICTSI’s goal is to connect the majority of its terminals to the data platform.
“The digital transformation predicted over the next ten years is happening today,” says Ella Dujali-Mangubat, Customer Success Lead at Microsoft Philippines.
“COVID19 has challenged organizations, but also accelerated the creation of untapped opportunities and business models,” she added.
“We are helping ICTSI accelerate its resilience and growth strategies around the world. “
In addition to building the data platform, ICTSI migrated its terminal operating system (TOS) called Navis N4 to Microsoft Azure.
So far, three terminals – Subic Bay International Terminals (SBITC), Mindanao Container Terminal (MTC) and Onne Multipurpose Terminal (OMT) – have successfully migrated to Azure.
These terminals now benefit from increased performance, better security and transparent transactions with their customers and partners.
The T & Cs for terminals located in Brazil and Argentina will also soon be migrated to Azure.
“Everything went well and we completed the migration activities ahead of schedule,” says Hibbert.
In addition, “we were able to focus on security and disaster recovery.”
“The infrastructure is essential, but only the foundation. We work together in many areas including data analytics, digital platform services, delivery of shipping application programming interfaces (APIs), and web and mobile applications for customers ”, a- he explained.
“This is the start of a very exciting journey which is entirely designed to ensure that all of our terminals provide great digital experiences for our customers,” he added.
ICTSI aims to enable new innovations by opening its data platform to the public through an API layer and allowing access to citizen developers to build their applications and services.
Additionally, the company is looking to partner with other private organizations to create an open data platform where they can exchange data.
ICTSI’s goal is to foster a start-up mindset and drive innovation in the Philippines in partnership with Microsoft.
