China donates solar lights to rural communities – Blueprint Newspapers Limited

The Commerce Department of Yunnan Province, China on Friday donated 200 sets of off-grid photovoltaic equipment to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (FMSTI) to boost the country’s access renewable energies in rural communities.

Speaking in Abuja, State Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Mohammed Abdullahi said the initiative will also promote the transfer of renewable energy to rural communities.

“The proposed cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology in the fields of science, technology and innovation research and development aims to boost Nigeria’s access to renewable energy in communities rural. The project will also promote the transfer of renewable energy and green energy technologies to Nigeria.

The project titled “Promoting Green Energy in Africa, Enlightening Thousands of Families by Yunnan Provincial Department of Commerce 2021” is part of the “Belt and Road Initiative”. As a first step, the Commerce Department of Yunnan Province wishes to donate 200 sets of off-grid photovoltaic equipment to the Ministry of Science and Technology. The company is a technology leader in the planning, design and construction of solar power, wind power, biomass power, distributed power sources and nuclear power project support.

Abdullahi added that the project aims to provide a solution to the electricity shortage in rural areas where the national grid is not accessible. He added that he would promote local science and technology, economic development and improved livelihoods.

“This project will have a significant demonstration effect in Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology will certainly play a leading role in innovating and promoting new energies in Nigeria.”

That said, thousands of Nigerians will benefit from the initiative, embracing the free light generated from natural resources, and help the nation achieve the planned carbon emission and zero target as planned.
