’24/7 power supply throughout Delhi, Rs 3,250cr allocated for grant’ | Delhi News

New Delhi: The Delhi government’s “zero electricity bill” program for consumers using up to 200 units of electricity has been a great success and is a major contributor to energy conservation, the Deputy CM and Finance Minister Manish Sisodia during the budget presentation on Saturday. Delhi residents are now supplied with uninterrupted electricity 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, he said.
“The government also granted a 100% subsidy for electricity consumption up to 400 units to the victims of the 1984 riots. The electricity subsidy scheme was also extended to law firms in the premises of the court,” MP CM said. Similarly, all agricultural consumers in Delhi receive subsidies for connection, he added.
“These programs are the pillars of the Kejriwal governance model. I am proposing expenditure of Rs 3,250 crore for electricity subsidy in the budget for the year 2022-23,” the finance minister said.
A budget of Rs 3,340 crore has been proposed for the power sector. While the electricity sector’s share represents 4% of the total budget, the subsidy takes the lion’s share of the total allocation for this sector.
Sisodia also said the nation’s capital is making steady progress toward adopting rooftop solar units. The installed capacity of 16 rooftop power plants has already reached 900 megawatts (MW), he said.
“Over the next five years, the Delhi government will introduce a new solar policy to achieve the target of increasing the installed capacity of rooftop solar power plants to 2,500 MW (peak), which will contribute 10% of demand. Delhi Energy Annual,” he said. Sisodia also said that thanks to the new solar policy, 40,000 jobs would be created for sales people, construction workers, electricians, technicians and engineers in this sector.
The jobs will be among the one lakh ‘green jobs’ that the Aam Aadmi Party government expects to create with the launch of several initiatives in Delhi. Providing clean air and water for future generations is an integral part of the Delhi government’s vision for 2047, the government said in a statement.
